Love is Love [Valentine's Day 2014]

Let me hop onto the express train of Valentine's Day posts. And, as we all know, V-Day is just around the corner... (yay!!)

To be honest, I did not expect to be spending Valentine's Day alone this year. My break up back in December caught me by surprised and I'm still heartbroken by it. I'll share my story with you guys when I figure out everything.

But, despite the unfortunate turn of events, I don't find myself hating Valentine's Day. If I'm single, it's just another day. Given my circumstances, I'll get bummed out when I wake up but I'll get through the day. If I'm in a relationship, it'll be a day of love but honestly, shouldn't we be expressing our love to our significant other regularly without a calendar telling us to do so?

I'm reading all these post about tips on surviving V-Day alone, benefits on being single, etc. etc.

Let's just take a step back and remind ourselves that Valentine's Day is a day of love. And love comes in many, many, many different types of forms. V-Day is not dedicated to our SO. If Valentine's Day is a day of love, show your love to your parents, your siblings, your best friends, your dog, or even your neighbour that you say 'good morning' to every day.

I think a lot of us need to remember that love comes from the people around us. We shouldn't have to look up 'tips on how to survive Valentine's if you're single' or 'top 10 things to do if you're single'. So what if you're single? Treat Valentine's Day like any other day. Or, buy a rose for your mother, buy chocolates for your best friend, and hell, even buy a bag of treats for your pet. We express our love to our significant other almost on a daily basis so why not use the day to express your love for your best friend that helped you through high school?

Valentine's Day is just another day. There's no need to hate Feb. 14th. If you're really bitter about it, switch your perspective about love and realize that family/friends love, pet love, neighbourly love, or whatever love (even blog love!) is worth celebrating and being thankful for.

Love is Love.

  1. Love your thoughts on this. I have been really struggling, since this will be the first "holiday" since my husband left, this is just another reminder to change my perspective.

  2. I so agree with you, Vday is just a marketing holiday, heck boyfriend can buy me flowers and chocolate anytime of the year. In fact I would appreciate it more because he wouldn't be forced into buying that for me.

  3. Oh I'm sorry to hear that. To be honest, I hate V Day! I have some terrible memories related to this day. I'm having a singles pizza party tomorrow to enjoy our singleness! That's how things will work for me :) And there's bloglantine coming on 15th!!

  4. Love is love! It can be your friend, your pet, or even enjoying your favorite hobby on that day. I' sorry to hear about your breakup -- I still have not been in a serious relationship after my last one of 1 year. All I remember are..fights and a crappy Valentines. Being single can be the best or not the best for people, but you can't be happy in a relationship until you can be happy by yourself first. You will find your SO soon, the right one will come. It sounds so cliche, but as long as you believe in it, what's stopping it from happening? xx
