Job Searching/Internships & 'Reading Habits Tag'

I'm going to be nice and not bore you into details of my job/internship searching.

Basically... I'm nearly done school, I just need 4 months worth of work experience related to HR before I graduate. Sooo... I've been applying to HR jobs (despite not having experiences) and applying to internships (which I found out there's more account and engineering internships than HR).

Ugh, this reminds me of those months of being unemployed. However, getting a part time retail job is much easier than getting an entry-level job to start your career.

Anyways, to make this a fun post, I've stolen been tagged by Becci and her reading habits tag. And... as someone that looooves books, how can I pass up a books tag?!

Do you have a certain place at home for reading?

This is going to sound odd... but I read in the dark, on my bed. It's probably bad for my eyes (who cares, right?) but it keeps me focused on what I'm reading without falling asleep. I love reading in my bed but I fall asleep (even if it's a great book!) because the bed's just too comfy. When I'm dedicated to reading my book, then I'll read it in a somewhat uncomfortable chair just so I won't fall asleep. But, I do get a lot more reading done on my chair than on my bed.

Bookmark or random piece of paper?
Bookmarks! I won't fork out even $2 for a bookmark so most of mines are given when I purchase the book or if they're just free. And by free, I mean... it's a bookmark with an advertisement on it. I cannot fold the corners of my pages because "harming the book" makes me cringe.

Can you just stop reading or do you have to stop after a chapter or certain number of pages?
I tend to stop after I'm done the chapter, UNLESS I'm forced to stop midway because of: 1) I'm on public transit and it's my stop to get off, 2) I'm in class and break is over or someone talks to me, 3) I'm just so tired, I know I'm going to doze off in five seconds.

Do you eat or drink while reading?
Nope. I might have a drink occasionally, but I usually just sit and read.

Do you watch TV or listen to music while reading?
Nope. TV and music (and even people talking) interrupts my trains of thoughts/visualizations of the texts when I read. I can block out people's voices, but I can't block out music and TV. Especially the television!

One book at a time or several at once?
I used to be a 'one book at a time' girl but ever since I started Hitler, I began to read other books just to get a break from the massive book. I honestly didn't know how big Hitler was (I have the ePub file) so when I realized I was getting tired of reading non-fiction, I turned to the hopeless romantic books for a break. Ever since then, I've been reading 2-3 books at a time and surprisingly still managing to keep track of plots and characters!

Reading at home or everywhere?
Everywhere else. I love reading at home but to be honest, I'd rather play the Sims or browse the internet than read my book. But, if I'm elsewhere, like at school, transit, etc., I'll read nonstop.

Reading out loud or silently in your head?
In my head... who still reads out loud?!

Do you ever read ahead or skip pages?
Noooo! I may have done this back in elementary but not anymore. I don't like spoilers.

Breaking the spine or keeping it like new?
Not going to lie, keeping it new :3

Do you write in your books?
Here's one of my deep dark confessions: I used to write fanfictions. And if you search hard enough... there's some scattered across the internet. #insertembarrassedemoticon #pleasedontsearchforthem

Feel free to steal this and say I tagged you! :P

Manicures on the go!

I'm no beauty guru, or have a bank account with disposable income, and with a few months left until school is done, I don't have the time to make an appointment for a 2 hours manicure session.

Plus, most of the time, I'm not really down to make small talk with people.

Which is why I resorted to using imPress press on manicure nails for those times that I feel I need to spice up my nails.

I'm not going to lie, I'm never a fan of fake nails but when they said no glue and only takes a few minutes to apply, I was interested.

First off, I love a product with good packaging. Like the imPress nails. The plastic nail polish bottle to hold all the nails are super adorable and easily reusable for the next batch of nails.

Another reason I tend to stay away from fake nails is due to the fact that I have small nails and most of these pre-made nails are usually on the larger side. A part of be was set to accept the fact that most of these might be too big, but to my surprised, when I lined up the cuticles, I had an extremely easy time finding nails that fits mine!

As a small girl, can you say, jackpot?!

The application process is literally less than 10 minutes, and 5 at the most. Once you sorted out all the appropriate sizes, tear off the plastic cover and line it up on your nails. Once satisfied, apply pressure!

Easy peasy, lemon squeezy!

Instructions on package.
As a broke college student with limited time on my hand, I would definitely recommend these fast and easy press on manicures. Another big bonus is once you're tired of them, you can quickly take them off.

Not to mention that these nails are durable. After hours of putting them on, I took a shower and much to my surprise, the nails stayed on. They didn't slip, they didn't feel loose, they just stayed put.

*Disclaimer: This review is sponsored by Influenster and imPress nails. However, my opinions on the product(s) remains 100% honest and unbiased.

I got a pixie cut!

If you follow my Instagram account, you'll know that last night I chopped off my hair and went brunette!

Based on my last post, I've been eying a pixie cut for a while day and since my professor let us out early yesterday, I decided to visit my local salon (Modern Beauty Studio) and get a new do.

So... yes, essentially this new do happened spontaneously! And I'm happy because I love change and "risk" taking (because apparently cutting off all your hair is risky business!). Speaking of change, it's also my first time ever dying my hair brown (Ash Brown). Originally, I wanted to add highlights in but the stylist recommended me to go brunette.

Hair colour in natural lighting - few hours before chopping it all off.

No longer spotting green/blue hair, even though I still loved it when they cut it off. No more long hair to dance in the wind when the breeze blows this summer.

Instead, everything is lightweight (and cold).

I love the results and lucky me, I guess short hair suits me too. Although many of my friends can't see it, I thank them all for their wonderful comments ^__^ #blushin.

Have a happy Wednesday/Thursday!

#2014BloggerChallenge - Cut it all off?

I want a pixie cut.

I haven't had a pixie cut since... the third grade or so? So, naturally, you can tell how nervous I am thinking of chomping it all off.

But, since I'm getting tired of long hair and tired of switching from my regular hairstyle A to B, I want to switch to hairstyle C - something that I've never done before.

The shortest I've gotten my hair cut was back in 2011 when I was vacationing in China and my relatives told me to get an "Asian hairstyle".

Glorious, eh? It grazed just above my collarbones and I had a permanent Japanese straightening done to it.

So yes, that's the shortest I've done since my pixie cut days.

However, now I want to switch it up. I mean, it's summer, it's a season of fun and chances. I'm also starting co-op/internship soon and need to present myself much more "professional", so I'm planning to get rid of the green dye in my hair. And finally, worst case scenario, I don't like my pixie cut, my hair grows pretty fast.

But, at the same time, I'm a bit hesitant to chop it all off. I think of the summer breeze and my hair flowing in the wind. I think playing with my hair when I'm bored. In a way, my hair gives me confidence and it's something I've always got compliments on.

I talked to my friends and they all agree I should give it a go and I'll probably look "really cute" with one.

Who knows? I might just be getting one sometime this week! :o

Friday's Five Things I Never Thought Would Happen To Me

In case you missed my awesome #selfie on Instagram.
Life throws you curveballs. All the time.

Being 20, yes, I'm still young but I've also experienced things I didn't think I would ever encounter.

In simpler words, even at a young age of 20, with the whole world right in front of my eyes, life has thrown curveballs at me.

For example:

1. I never thought I would ever be a victim of relationship abuse.

2. Following that, I never thought I'd be pregnant at the age of 19 and going through an abortion (sorry (but not sorry), pro-lifers!).

3. I never thought I'd lose my best friend of 9+ years to her selfishness and wrong priorities.

4. I never thought I would be depressed enough to consider taking my own life / having suicidal thoughts.

5. I never thought I'd have such a strained relationship with my family.

But, nonetheless, life is a journey.

It really is.

My First Tinder Meet-Up

Remember me using Tinder?

Well... after talking to a guy named V., we finally decided to meet up in person today last Friday.

I've never met anyone from online before - aside from selling/buying used textbooks from students. I'm never nervous about textbooks meet ups because A) chances are, you'll never see/talk to them again, and B) they need the textbook so there's usually a low chance of getting stood up or anything going wrong.

I was nervous. Not as nervous as the last few minutes before you step onto a stage to perform, but just... a little nervous.

We agreed to meet up at Science World, originally at 3PM but he pushed it to 3:30. I was fine because I realized I wouldn't make it on time either since I was still sitting in my final exam. When I got to Science World, I got a text message saying he's going to be even more late... like 4PM late.

At that point, I didn't get mad or anything but that means I would've waited 45 minutes for this guy. He told me the night before that he wouldn't stand me up and I trusted him. But, now, since he's constantly pushing back the time, it was making me second-guess this situation.

Nothing says happy, sunny, Friday like a book on Stalingrad!

Telus World of Science. And, like the name suggests, it's a "world" of science. Everything is about science!
He arrived about 4:05PM. At that point, I was getting restless sitting at the same spot and killing my phone battery and chapters of my Stalingrad book. He eventually found me - I mean, it's not hard to spot a little Asian girl with blue/green hair and a cat bag.

We went over to Urban Fare where we ate AND, get this,

His childhood best friend... is the brother of my best friend! I met my best friend's brothers so I knew which one he was talking about. V. knew the entire family and it was all because we were talking about which elementary school we graduated from. And Sexsmith is not a common elementary name to forget instantly. I believe V. and Justin (the brother) are the same age.

The fact that he knew the entire family made me feel at ease. I know the family well enough that they only associate with good hearted people which made me feel better about V. not being a creep, haha.

We went to a music store and walked around Gastown a bit before he had to go to his yoga class. Before we left, we agreed to make up a story about how we met. I wanted to keep it simple and say, we met at Science World, but he wants it a bit more elaborate. In the end, it still beats telling people that we met on Tinder, haha. That fact alone is just between me and my blog readers :P

I got a text message about half an hour after we departed. He said "You look cuter in person than in your photos :)" and while that message should make me feel good, it made me remember The Boy again. And, I know I said I wouldn't talk about him anymore, but a few days ago, he pretty much sent me a message that implied that he's a fool for messing up everything and hopes to talk again (on better terms) in the future. And remember the bags of stuff I gave back? He's holding onto them (ALL OF THEM) in hopes that I'll want them back in the future.

Shit like that makes things so much harder. I want to see where my relations with V. can go, but I don't want to make it too serious when my mind (and heart) is obviously still thinking about The Boy.

Graduation Gift Wishlist

I don't graduate until the end of the year, but technically speaking, I'll be out of school in about three months or so and spend the rest of the year working in a co-op or internship.

Although I don't know if my parents meant it, but after my high school graduation, I was given a roundtrip ticket to China for a month with spending money. I considered it a graduation gift since none of my parents or my brother tagged along.

New laptop // iPad Mini // Paid off CCs // Airfare to one of my dream destinations // Apartment (LOL)

This wishlist is probably going to sound extremely spoiled, and trust me, I'm normally not like this but I figured... it's graduation AND it's called a wishlist for a reason, LOL.

  • New laptop. The current one I'm using right now is just old. Plain old. I got it when my previous laptop got stolen. It's not a high end model, but it does it stuff. You know, browsing, editing, Sims, but recently, it's just been crap. I can't watch YouTube videos without it freezing up for a few seconds or so... even if the video is only 30 seconds long! It runs programs smoothly but as a Sims addict, I'd like to have the game in higher quality, and faster. I don't think this current laptop is capable of running The Sims 4.
  • iPad Mini. I have a Samsung tablet, but my friend that works in Apple is sort of persuading me into looking at getting an iPad. The only reason why I don't have an iPad is because I use a tablet for the sole purpose of reading and the iPad lack features that suits me for reading. But, as I'm moving into a new chapter in my life with (hopefully) a new job, I think an iPad can accommodate my reading and working on-the-go.
  • (CC) Debt relief. I don't want someone to pay off my entire 20k of student loans (although that'd be nice), but I at least want my credit card debts to be paid off. It's not much, in total, I have about $1,200 to owe back to my credit cards and the only reason why I'm delaying full payments to pay everything off, is because I don't have a job right now, BUT I pay more than the minimum which helps brings it lower, month by month (I don't touch my CCs anymore) so hopefully by the time I graduate (within 3 months or 6), I'd have a smaller credit card debt.
  • Paid airfare. In high school, I got a trip to China, and yes it was fun but I've been to China so many times. I'd like, for once, to go to one of my dream destinations, and not my parents'.
  • An apartment. This is most likely unrealistic buuuut, yeah, I want to move out because I'm getting fed up. Either move out of the house or out of the city.

Honestly, for my graduation gift, I'm most likely going to get an iPad. My friend can get me a steep discount on it and it's the most likely gift. Unless my laptop decides to completely die on me.

Graduates, what are some gifts you're hoping for? Or, even treating yourself for?

A Bittersweet Tuesday

Seriously, who does not enjoy receiving mail? Even if it's my credit card statements, I still love getting mail! This morning, I was greeted by three packages from my latest eBay purchases! I'm actually surprised how all three (different sellers) arrived at the same day - eBay shipments (from China) never happens like that!

Remember the blue shirt that I thought I'd loooove?! Well... let's downgrade that 'love' to 'like'. First initial thought was - I don't remember this being a long sleeved shirt. I was pretty upset so I sent a message the eBay seller and asked for a refund because the shirt didn't match the description. She apologized and gave me a refund. On top of the shirt not matching the description, the embellishments were a bit loose and there were loose threads hanging everywhere.

However, when I threw it into the laundry basket to have it washed, I reexamined the shirt again and found out that there's a little fabric that hooks onto the beads on around the elbow - just like the photos in the description! I thought... holy crap, I'm stupid. I pretty much complained about a top that was NEVER wrong to begin with!  Sooo... essentially, I got this top for free!

Yesssssssssssss, my infamous kitty bag finally came in! It's exactly what the description said, and the quality (the one thing that I worried about) is AMAZING! I'm happy about the size, the quality, and the detailing! I honestly can't wait to start using this for school!

Finally, I got myself a metal tongue bar. The ball didn't screw on properly so I eventually asked for a refund. I think I'm just going to buy another one from a jewelry store in the mall.

And, finally, to end Tuesday, I actually ended up dropping off everything (and I mean EVERYTHING) that The Boy ever given me. All the gifts, movie stubs, everything.

So, it was a bittersweet Tuesday; I got my new items and I ended up giving up and getting rid of everything from The Boy.

New Blog Design (#MightyMOtivation)

See something new?!

I redid my blog design because I sort of dislike the image mapping AND I decided to make a bucket list page and realized if I continue to make more pages/links, I'm probably going to have to redo a banner every so often.

Gosh, I feel so.. self centered to use my own pictures as a theme but.. it's my blog, hahaha!
HA! (sorry, I'm just feeling a bit off today).

So, earlier today in Instagram, I got tagged by Mo and this week's theme is change. And I figured, what's a better way to make change by changing my blogger theme? I mean, sureeeee, I can change my life (seriously, it's changing alright!), buuuuuut... my blog!!

I based this design off my old, old, oooooooooooooold design from my old blog. It's simple and I fell in love with the final result.

click for full size.
I couldn't replicate the polaroids because it was generated by a discontinued program :(
I also couldn't replicate the font (I know, it looks similar right?!) because I forgot the exact font name, but I found some cool ones that I enjoy better. I didn't think of capslocking my title at the time I was making it... but I sort of wished I did :( oh wells.

I'm making final tweaks (maybe new buttons?) to the theme such as what to do with my sidebar headers... I seriously HATE making those things T___T

Anyways, enjoy!

#2014BloggerChallenge - Music (5 Favourite Songs)

I feel like I haven't blogged in a while but I'm glad I took a little "break". I've been reading blogs, contemplating about getting back into writing, contemplating about redesigning my blog, and umm... just a lot of random YouTube videos to help with the procrastination of this post.

This week's Blogger Challenge is about music.

I'm not going to lie - growing up, I was a bit shy to share my music with my friends because I was more into Disney pop and not the whole rapping scene and/or sexy female singers. I mean, I'd have a few songs by one artist but back as a kid, it would be filled with Disney singers like Hilary Duff, Lindsay Lohan... Hannah Montana/Miley Cyrus.

Uh... yeah. I mean, I still got songs by these people but let's just say, now, I listen to whatever and learned not to be embarrassed by my music preferences.

Nowadays, I don't even listen to the radio/Top 40. I hate Top 40, especially shitty songs like Timber (or anything by Ke$ha, really), and Robin Thicke. If I ever need music, it's usually out of my iPod, or through Songza.

Anyways, without further ado, here's my top five favourite songs to share with you guys:

I mean, if I had it my way, I'll share every song ever performed by The Weeknd, buuuut...
